For years, prisons in the United States have operated in a two-tier system.
These “Club FED” facilities are notoriously easygoing and many offer leisurely activities for their inmates.
Typically, the worst criminals – such as child sex offenders – aren’t housed in these cushy prisons. However, this is not the case for Jeffery Epstein’s partner in crime, Ghislaine Maxwell.
The convicted child predator was recently transferred to a low-security federal prison in Florida where she will serve the remainder of her 20-year sentence for helping billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein abuse and traffic underage girls, according to the DailyMail. Following her trial, she was convicted on six separate counts stemming from her partnership with Epstein.
Maxwell’s transfer to the new facility was opposed by the judge who oversaw her trial and sentencing determination, Judge Alison Nathan. Nathan advised that Maxwell be sent to FCI Danbury in Connecticut, but her request was overruled by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). There has been no explanation as to why Maxwell was moved to the low-security facility.
What’s more, the new facility, FCI Tallahassee, is just miles away from where Maxwell committed many of her crimes.
From the DailyMail:
“The disgraced socialite has been moved to FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison in the Sunshine State, near where she committed her crimes…
…That Maxwell serves her sentence in Florida has a certain irony as it was there that her criminal conduct occurred.
The charges stemmed from crimes committed against four women between 1994 and 2004 mostly at Epstein’s mansion in Palm Beach, a five hour drive from her new prison.”
Needless to say, Maxwell’s transfer to the low-security facility is a slap in the face to her victims, especially considering the close proximity to where she committed her crimes.
FCI Tallahassee only houses women and is so easygoing that the inmate handbook allows inmates to wear “khaki dresses” in addition to their standard prison attire. Maxwell will also be permitted to wear a plain wedding band while she is housed there.
Until she is eligible for release on July 17, 2037, Maxwell will have access to numerous leisurely activities that are available to inmates at the cushy institution, including participating in theater performances with other inmates, watching movies, and learning new trades (such as cooking, plumbing, or cosmetology). Maxwell will even have access to a running track and a full weight room. There are even several sports activities like flag football, pilates, yoga, and frisbee.
From the DailyMail:
“While at the MDC Maxwell had already impressed other inmates by teaching them yoga and English – she will likely continue to do so in her new prison.
According to one prison consultant, Zoukis Consulting Group, yoga is available to inmates at FCI Tallahassee as well as pilates, weights, softball, flag football and frisbee – English is also taught for those who want to learn.
Maxwell will be able to keep herself entertained by taking part in the prison talent show or watching movies.
There is also a track for running – Maxwell is known to be a keen jogger.
Maxwell will be able to continue learning Russian – her lawyers have said she started doing so in the MDC to keep herself entertained – in the recreational library.
Among the apprenticeships that Maxwell can do are: electrician, baker, horticulturist and plumber, though it is not clear which local companies she would potentially work for.”
In other words, it’s all much better than what she deserves. Not only does Maxwell get to relax her days away in her new cushy environment, but the clients that she serviced with Epstein still have not been named.
This is a travesty of justice.
