The principal at George Wythe High School in Richmond, Virginia, who was also a member of the New England Patriots team that won the Super Bowl in 2001, died unexpectedly on Friday while riding his bicycle.
“Mr. Riddick T. Parker, Jr. age 49, departed this earthly life on Friday, August 19, 2022 at his home in Chesterfield, VA,” according to the obituary.
On Friday morning, Richmond Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras tweeted the news of Parker’s passing.
“I’m absolutely devastated to share that Riddick Parker, Principal of George Wythe HS, has passed away,” Kamras announced.
“Mr. Parker gave his FULL heart & soul to the students of Wythe and will be dearly missed. Details are forthcoming on a memorial service. Please keep his family in your prayers,” the tweet concluded.
Although the official cause of death has not been disclosed, sources told CBS 6 that Parker passed away while he was riding a bicycle.
“The circumstances surrounding his death have also not yet been disclosed,” the outlet added.
Riddick Parker was a former defensive end in the NFL. During his NFL career, Mr. Parker played for the following teams: Seattle Seahawks (1997–2000), New England Patriots (2001), and Baltimore Ravens (2002–2003).
Parker played in a total of 82 games and had 5 sacks during his 6-year NFL career. He played college football at the University of North Carolina and was originally inked to a contract by the Chargers; however, he was never on the roster during his time in San Diego. His death seems attributed to a cardiac event while he was bicycling.
Parker had a six-year NFL career, during which he appeared in 82 games and recorded 5 sacks. He signed with the Chargers after playing college football at the University of Carolina, according to Wiki.
After his passing, people have offered their respects.
“Love, peace and prayers to Riddick Parker’s family. He was one of the guys I always looked up to. He did such great things in football and in life. But, time is filled with swift transition. We just never know. RIP,” Brandon Allen wrote.
Another friend wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of George Wythe High School Principal Riddick Parker. He was a beautiful person in every way. From the moment I met him, he assured me that George Wythe was my home, and he meant that. He made it clear that I never had to announce my visits and that it was my school too. He worked tirelessly and was always busy, but he made time to interact with his faculty, staff, and students. He tried to take care of us all.”
