The AP and Politico are reporting that al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri was killed this weekend. al-Zawahiri was most likely the target of a U.S. drone stike in Kabul this past weekend.
Al-Zawahiri took over al Qaeda after Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan in a U.S. raid in 2011.

The killing of Al-Zawahiri comes as one year anniversary nears of the Joe Biden turning over Afghanistan to the Taliban as a gift.
A drone strike in Kabul over the weekend is though to have taken out al-Zawahiri.

The Taliban issued a statement condemning the attack, “The Taliban in a statement confirms that US drone strike targeted a house in Shirpur area of capital #Kabul. The #Taliban have condemned the attack as violation of Doha peace agreement & harmful for mutual cooperation in the future.”
