Texas Rep. Jodey Arrington is working on a federal bill modeled after the Texas state law that bans abortion at six weeks of pregnancy.
The congressman said that he wants to see the six week ban be the “law of the land.”
“I’d like to introduce it, I’m actually working on it right now,” Arrington said during a press conference on Friday. “To take the state of Texas law which basically prohibits abortion except in the situation where the mother’s life is at risk…I’d like to have that the law of the land. That’s be ideal for me.”

Arrington explained that the bill will have an exemption to save the life of the mother.
“So where there’s the scenario of life for life, I think that’s appropriately delegated to the woman and the family in consultation with their pastor and doctor, et cetera,” Arrington said.
Arrington also celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision.
“I’m just pleased that we have a court that got it right,” Arrington said. “And that honored and upheld the Constitution.”
More than a dozen states had “trigger laws” that banned or heavily restricted abortion on a state level after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
A national abortion ban is unlikely to reach the 60 votes needed in Congress even if Republicans do well in the midterms in November. There is also pretty much no chance that Joe Biden would sign it into law even if they did manage to pass it.
