Joe Biden lit into the Supreme Court at a post-NATO summit press conference in Madrid, Spain Thursday, calling the court “outrageous” and “destabilizing” and calling for suspending the filibuster in the Senate to allow passage of legislation legalizing abortion.
“…The one thing that has been destabilizing is the outrageous behavior of the Supreme Court of the United States on overruling, not only Roe v. Wade, but essentially challenging the right to privacy. We’ve been a leader in the world in terms of personal rights, and privacy rights, and it is a mistake, in my view, for the Supreme Court to do what it did…
Pres. Biden says it was a “mistake” to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“First and foremost thing we should do is make it clear how outrageous this decision was and how much it impacts not just on a woman’s right to choose, which is a critical, critical piece, but on privacy generally, on privacy generally. And, so, I’m gonna be talking to, uh, to the governors as to what actions they think I should be taking as well and uh, but the most important thing to be clear about is, we have to change, I believe we codify Roe v. Wade in the law and the way to do that is to make sure the Congress votes to do that. And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, it should be, we provide an exception for this. We except, we require an exception to the filibuster for this action.”
“We have to codify Roe v. Wade into law,” President Biden says.

Republican activist Matt Whitlock commented on Biden’s overseas attack on the court, “Quite an ugly moment from President unity who ran on respecting and preserving out institutions. Also allowing states to set abortion laws more in line with Europe than China is not “destabilizing the world.” Imagine thinking world stability depended on abortion on demand…There was an attempted assassination on a Supreme Court Justice just 3 weeks ago, which Biden has refused to condemn. His AG has refused to enforce the law protecting them from potentially dangerous protests at their homes. Now he’s attacking their legitimacy on the world stage.”

The Senate is evenly divided 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats with Democrats controlling the chamber thanks to the tiebreaking vote of Kamala Harris.
In 2019 while campaigning for president, Biden warned ending the legislative filibuster was “dangerous.”

UPDATE: Kamala Harris backs up Biden, “We have to codify Roe v. Wade into law. If the filibuster gets in the way, the Senate needs to make an exception to get this done.”

Democrat Senators Krysten Sinema (AZ) and Joe Manchin (WV) put the word out to reporters Thursday they maintain their opposition to changing the legislative filibuster.
Manchin’s position opposing reducing 60-vote threshold for filibuster also hasn’t changed despite Biden’s comments, per spox
