According to a report by the Daily Caller, the U.S. State Department plans to announce a new Racial Equity Chief later this month as part of its Equity Action Plan; another step forward is making sure America remains “woke.”
The State Department first announced the position of Special Representative in its April Equity Action Plan. Details of the new position were relayed from an email obtained by Daily Caller.
The appointee has not been named, but the Special Representative will have wide-reaching powers since they will be responsible for “institutionaliz[ing] an enterprise-wide approach to integrating racial and ethnic equity.” The State Department is expected to make an official announcement on the new position on June 17th.
The email notes that the position will focus on “advancing equity, addressing systemic racism, and strengthening democracy worldwide” as “national security imperatives and core tenets of President Biden’s foreign policy.”
The person who assumes the new role will be responsible for “promoting systems of inclusion that mitigate bias, discrimination, and violence” and “fostering more inclusive societies.”
The email notes that the role will also be responsible for “countering disinformation and societal violence aimed at marginalized racial and ethnic communities.”
The new role falls in line with the campaign focus of Biden’s during the 2020 election when he repeatedly claimed a primary focus was racial equity and a broader sense of inclusion in America.
On his first day in office, Biden signed an executive order requiring the federal government to “pursue a comprehensive approach to advancing equity for all.” This new position appears to be part of that expanded effort.
Biden has also ordered the federal government to engage in racially conscious hiring practices, requiring employees to participate in diversity and inclusion training.
