Republican Congressman Tom Reed (NY) on Tuesday announced his resignation from Congress following sexual misconduct accusations.

Last year a former lobbyist named Nicolette Davis accused Rep. Reed of sexual misconduct on a political trip to Minnesota in 2017.
Rep. Reed released a statement last year apologizing to Davis and said he “showed her disrespect and was unprofessional.”
“I was wrong, I am sorry, and I take full responsibility,” Reed said.
The New York lawmaker said he was struggling with alcohol in 2017 and has since been on a journey of recovery.

Rep. Tom Reed announced his resignation from the House floor on Tuesday.
“After almost 12 years in Congress, today is my last day,” Tom Reed said.
“It is time for petty political posturing to end,” he added.
