Oklahoma lawmakers on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted to ban abortion and imprison doctors who perform the procedure.
There will be exceptions for an abortion if it saves the expectant mother’s life.
Doctors who perform abortions will be fined $100,000 and spend up to 10 years in prison.
Republican Governor Kevin Stitt said he will sign the anti-abortion (pro-life) bill.
NBC News reported:
The state House passed a bill Tuesday that would make performing an abortion a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican, has said he will sign any anti-abortion bill sent to him. If he signs this one, it will go into effect this summer.
Another House bill, 4327, would allow private citizens to file lawsuits against doctors who perform abortions and would only allow a woman to have an abortion if her life were at stake. It now goes to the state Senate.
The editors at the Texas Tribune flipped out over Oklahoma’s new abortion bill because it would give neighboring Texas fewer options.
“More Texans have sought abortions in Oklahoma than any other state since a Texas law banning abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy went into effect on Sept. 1” – the Texas Tribune wrote.
The Oklahoma Legislature has passed a total abortion ban — giving Texans fewer options.

The ACLU vowed to fight Oklahoma over its new abortion ban.
BREAKING: Oklahoma’s legislature just passed a total ban on abortion.
Across the country, attacks on abortion rights are continuing to build, but this fight is not over.
No one should be forced to continue a pregnancy against their will.
