California extended its statewide indoor mask mandate through at least February 15 due to Omicron (common cold with sniffles).
Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly made the announcement on Wednesday.
The most recent mask mandate in California went into effect on December 15 and was supposed to expire on January 15.
“Omicron is here,” Ghaly said in a briefing to reporters Wednesday. “We can’t abandon the tools that we’ve used to achieve our collective success throughout this pandemic.”
Dr. Ghaly told Californians to wear tight fitting masks with no gaps to protect against Omicron.
